Job Description
Principle Function: The Youth Minister Intern is responsible to the Pastor for the development and implementation of a youth program for the purpose of reaching young people for Christ and then helping them grow in their faith and practice into mature Christians. We are seeking an intern that will prayerfully evolve into a part-time, and later a full-time, position.
Responsibilities: The Youth Minister Intern, under the mentorship of the Pastor, will organize and direct a comprehensive youth program that will encompass Bible study, discipleship, and character development of the Junior High and Senior High youth. This will include, but not be limited to:
Counsel youth and minister to parents as needed.
- Develop a long range youth ministry plan that includes: outreach, worship, missions, discipleship, and fellowship.
- Work with families to provide parents with information about current and future youth ministry goals, activities, and opportunities.
- Plan and direct youth recreation programs, fellowships, and retreats which coordinate with and compliment other church programs and ministries.
- Maintain a spirit of cooperation in working together with other members of the church staff, lay leaders, and Youth volunteer workers.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by the Senior Pastor.
- Teach the students regularly in accordance with sound doctrine by engaging students with Sunday morning & mid-week Bible study.
- Make an effort to reach the students on a personal level and be involved in their personal lives in activities including, but not limited to:
- Attending High School/Junior High events that pertain to students in the youth (visit school for lunch; attend football games, plays, recitals, etc.)
- Planning one-on-one time with same-gendered students in order to spark discipleship, and seeking appropriate ways to bond with opposite-gendered students.
- Visiting area High School and Junior High events as allowable and connecting with other area youth programs (city youth development program, Fellowship of Christian Athletes on various campuses, Young Life youth program events, etc.)
- Youth Minister Intern will have the ability to be culturally relevant, while maintaining sound doctrine that aligns with that of the Southern Baptist Convention and, above all, be continually growing in faith and relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.
Anticipated Schedule Requirements: The Youth Minister Intern, will complete the following minimum schedule requirements:
Attend and lead (utilizing volunteers youth workers as needed) a Wednesday Night Youth group study and fellowship (6:30 – 8:30PM)
Attend Sunday Morning Youth Bible Study (in support of the volunteer youth bible study teacher) & Worship Service (9:30AM – 12:30PM)
Attend Sunday Night youth fellowship (hosted by parents) (6:00 – 8:30PM)
Attend staff meeting as schedule allows (Tuesday mornings)
Attend other church meetings and events as requested by Pastor (times vary)
Commit to a weekly mentorship time with Pastor (time flexible)
Qualifications: The successful candidate will have a calling from God to the ministry. Candidates should have a heart for youth and have some education and/or experience in ministry. Candidate may be a recent graduate or current student, who is in preparation for vocational ministry. As there is no provision for relocation or housing, successful candidate will reside in the area. Candidate will undergo a complete background check & have impeccable references.
Intern Benefits: Our goal is to offer an opportunity, to someone who is called to vocational ministry, to obtain real life ministry experience, one-on-one mentoring with Pastor and lay leaders, and possibly obtain course credit toward a ministry degree (as allowed by your educational institution). A modest stipend is available to be paid to candidate, or to be applied as a scholarship according to candidates needs.
